The Mirage of Black Justice in the USA

Surreal: “Marked by the intense irrational reality of a dream. In this case it’s not a dream but an unobjectionable nightmare. A nightmare parodied by token disbelief that no American has the right to feel. There is a fully unclothed truth that was disrobed before our eyes, that truth is… Black people do not share in the full spectrum of protection that those around us are comforted by, wrapped in, and securely feel.

There is a tug of war that we are implored to endure that is both exhausting, relentless, and often times borders on psychosis inducing. To be faced with all the truly good that America offers, but to never experience the totality of her protection. The equal protection under the law that we are told exist is dangled out in front of us, as we stand chained with our fingertips outstretched, desperately flailing at what is in view but out of reach.

It isn’t always that we want swift justice, don’t believe them when they say that, we want promises kept. We are told that our creator endows us with certain inalienable rights, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but my God does not endow the undervaluing of life, the disrespect of justice, and restraint of happiness that inundates our everyday lives. These follies, lies, and shortcomings of the American system are man-made,  and as such, must be fixed by man.
